Welcome to New Assistant Editor, Clinical Psychologist Pat Orner Oliver

By Dr Greg Mulhauser, Managing Editor | 8 August 2011

I am pleased as punch to welcome South Africa-based clinical psychologist Pat Orner Oliver to the CounsellingResource.com team — both as our new Assistant Editor and as the latest member of our International Advisory Board. (And speaking of site news, we’re still looking for a new clinical psychologist contributor to our Ask the Psychologist column, so if that could be you, drop us a line!)

Pat Orner Oliver

If you happen to have checked out the fine print about reviewing and editing at the end of some of our posts over in the Ask the Psychologist section, you might have noticed that Pat Orner Oliver has actually been with us now in the background for several months — with her editing talents first brought to bear on individual questions and replies for Ask the Psychologist and more recently on articles here in Psychology, Philosophy and Real Life. In most modern publishing systems, including our own, there’s quite a bit to learn about how everything fits together, and it doesn’t happen overnight: it’s not just about editing text or managing multimedia content per se, it’s also about working with various tools that influence how individual pages are structured, how those pages fit into an overall site architecture, and how content can best be made discoverable. It’s about connecting up what we write with the world around us, getting the material we can provide into the hands of the people who want or need it.

Pat has handled this all with aplomb, from the “meat and potatoes” activities of making sure text is accurate and readable all the way through to the technically sophisticated and subtle aspects of working with our publishing systems. And for me personally, it’s been a joy to work with Pat on the task of opening up our editing and publishing processes so they can be handled by a wider team than just me. We’ve made great progress on this, and so it is that Pat becomes our new Assistant Editor and also joins our International Advisory Board: welcome, Pat!

Just visit our ‘About Us’ page to learn more about Pat and her background.

And speaking of the newest members of our team, is the next announcement going to be one welcoming you? We’re still in discussion with a couple of potential new authors for Ask the Psychologist, but we have room for more: if you’re a clinical psychologist confident in your writing skills, I hope you’ll give us a shout via our contact page, or check our previous announcement: “Clinical Psychologist? Join Us and Reach an Audience of Millions”.

We look forward to hearing from you!
